Early in her career, Boynton Robinson worked for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) as a home demonstration agent. Following her marriage to another USDA agent, the two traveled the Alabama countryside promoting education, land ownership, and nutrition.
The couple later founded an insurance company geared towards Black people and participated in Black voter registration initiatives. Boynton Robinson allowed the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) and Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) to organize the Selma to Montgomery marches from her home and was one of the marchers who participated on Bloody Sunday.
